Close Credit Card Accounts Letter

If you have many credit card accounts with zero balances and no transaction activities ("inactive account"), this could actually negatively impact your credit score. Re: (Your account #)

Dear (Creditor's Name or Accounting Department):

Please close the above referenced account effective today. I spoke on the phone with (insert name) on (dd-mm-yyyy) and he/she guaranteed me that the closing balance of the credit card would be no more than (insert $$.$$ amount). I have therefore enclosed a check for that amount ($$.$$).

I would appreciate if you send me a written confirmation letter that my account has been closed and the date when it was closed with a $0 balance. Also, I request you to attach proof to the letter that you have informed all the 3 major Credit Bureaus that my account has been closed at customer's will. This is a requirement under the Fair Credit Reporting Act Section 623(a)(4).

I appreciate your 100% cooperation regarding this matter and if you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (your Phone #).

Sincerely,
